Case Studies Telecommunications The Challenge: A rapidly growing telecommunications company that was exploding with new sales and growth was becoming increasingly hard to manage. Trying to find the right people to keep up with the pace of the business became more than this company could handle. Beyond that, there was no human resource strategy that would allow for the systems and processes needed to manage the growing business. Human resource issues were being addressed to the CEO who was spending roughly 40% of his time resolving these issues when he needed to be focused on growing the business. The Solution: Insight Performance, Inc. was retained to develop a human resource strategy that would align the internal resources with the company’s vision for growth. Working two days a week, on site, we intervened with the senior management team to quantify their specific short-term and long-term plans for growth. In concert with the company’s business plan, a human resource action plan was developed and managed by Insight. During our tenure with this company, we: Results: As a result of our involvement, the company grew from 50 to 120 employees in the first five months. Revenues soared from 2M to 15M over three years. Employees were excited about working in this dynamic environment and clear about what they were hired to do. Insight Performance, Inc. transitioned out of this client by hiring a full-time Human Resource Representative. Because of our involvement, the client was able to hire a junior professional at a significantly reduced salary who currently manages the plan that we developed. Essentially, by working with Insight Performance, Inc., this company saved considerable time, money, and created process efficiency.
A well-established financial services organization is experiencing dynamic growth. The company employs approximately 100 people, located in sites throughout the country. Despite their success, the company has never had a human resource function. With plans to double revenues next year, they realized that they must either hire a full-time Human Resource Manager or outsource the function to an expert advisor. The Solution: Insight Performance, Inc. was hired to perform an audit of human resource practices. The client asked us to identify areas requiring a Best Practice Review, short-term compliance and develop a strategy that would allow the human resource infrastructure to support the organization’s anticipated growth. As a result of the review, Insight Performance, Inc. manages the human resource function to: The Results: During our partnership, the Boston Business Journal has recently rated them in the top forty of Boston’s fastest growing companies. Insight Performance, Inc. oversees the plan and regularly informs management on the important issues that affect the business. Our involvement provides a needed resource to employees to answer questions and deal with issues as they arise. This role allows the management team to focus on growing the business, as planned. We help the senior team to identify the core competencies needed to grow their business and partner with them to create the necessary infrastructure. Currently, the client is on track to double its revenues this year, while only marginally increasing the staff. High Tech The Challenge: A privately owned high-tech company had recently merged its core business with a four billion dollar conglomerate, in hopes that combined efforts would guarantee them larger market share and greater long-term success. Overnight, this small company went from a very successful independent company to a wholly owned subsidiary of a multi-million dollar hierarchy. They were immediately enmeshed in the maze of large company policies, procedures and protocol that was confusing and choking their daily productivity. The Solution: The President of the subsidiary hired Insight Performance, Inc. to manage its human resource function on an outsourced basis. Our professional experience in large companies and our proven expertise in applying this knowledge at a small company level, gave him confidence that we could address the subsidiary’s human resource concerns during the merger. To begin our engagement, we immediately met with the senior team and quantified the issues that were vital to their functional organization. We facilitated all employee meetings with management to discuss their concerns and honestly answer questions. Immediately, we were receiving feedback that both the managers and employees were “relieved” to know they had an interface with the parent company that would advocate on their behalf. Through a careful process, Insight worked with the parent company to transition the policies and processes vital to the integration, while preserving the original culture of the small company. The Results: Recent feedback from the President and his senior team affirm that our involvement has been invaluable in facilitating a very successful partnership with the parent company. The newly formed subsidiary is well positioned for growth. Expected sales will triple this year alone. Employees are assured that they have a vital role to play in this continued success. Policies are clear, benefits are richer and morale is at an all-time high because employees have a clear understanding of the combined company's future direction. Insight Performance, Inc. continues to manage this client’s strategic human resource plan. Initially, we were hired to manage the transition period because of our experience with mergers and acquisitions. However, our involvement continues because both the parent company and our original client see the tangible value of our work. Our approach is to be pro-active, to anticipate where issues will arise and take action that will make this transition as smooth as possible. Medical The Challenge: A growing company, specializing in developing medical devices, found that their human resource issues were distracting them from focusing their senior management team on the business at hand. The company employed ninety-two people and had sites across the country. Recent FDA approval meant that the culture was transitioning from a research and development company to now include a sales and marketing focus. Unsure about whether they had the right people to do the job and whether the existing talent could grow the company as planned, they were struggling with growing pains. The Solution: Insight Performance, Inc. was hired to conduct a Best Practice Review and develop a human resource strategy that aligned their people with the business vision. As a result of our immediate involvement, Insight identified several areas that needed to be addressed to bring this company into compliance with State and Federal employment laws. We developed a human resource strategy with measurable outcomes and counseled the senior team on an approach. They agreed with our assessment and hired Insight to manage their human resource function. The Results: Our team approach supports this valued client with: |
